Google is testing a new ‘Click-to-Call’ feature, which it will integrate into its AdWords program. The feature will give users a free and fast way to speak directly over the phone to the advertiser they found on a Google search results page.
The service works like a call-back system: once customers click on the phone icon that appears alongside the advertisement, they are are asked to enter a phone number and click ‘Connect For Free’. Then, Google calls the number provided, and when the customers pick up, they hear ringing on the other end as Google connects them to the advertiser.
Google will not share the details of the users with the advertisers, but will provide the advertiser’s number as caller ID, so that users can easily call them again in the future.
